In response to news about inhumane conditions for fishermen in Thailand, we have obtained statements from all of our partner brands that manufacture in Thailand confirming that they do not source from unlicensed boats or allow their factories to source anything unlicensed on their behalf. Weruva, Tiki, Wellness, and Fussie Cat have all addressed this issue publicly and have assured us that all of their manufacturers are members of the Thai Tuna Industry Association. They promote and support Thai and international ethical standards. In addition, they have third-party organizations auditing their factories to ensure compliance.

The pet food manufacturers listed below also produce sustainably sourced pet food and monitor their supply chains so that they do not use ingredients obtained illegally or using forced labor:

ACANA AND ORIJEN

Both brands are a part of the Champion Pet Foods family and are produced and sourced both in Canada and in their new state-of-the-art Dogstar kitchens in Auburn, Kentucky. Human-grade meats include wild-caught fish, free-run chicken, and turkey, and free-range bison and boar from producers Champion knows and trusts.

BRAVO PET FOODS 

Made only in Bravo’s own plant in the U.S., all ingredients are GMO-free, and most are sourced in the USA, with some ingredients from France and New Zealand.

FIRSTMATE AND KASIKS

Dog and cat food manufactured in FirstMate’s own factory in British Columbia, using locally sourced ingredients including free-run chicken and turkey, and wild-caught salmon and tuna.

FROMM

All lines and formulas of Fromm pet foods are made exclusively in the USA at USDA-inspected plants.

FUSSIE CAT

Made in FDA-approved kitchens in Thailand that also produce food for people. Fussie Cat’s premium chicken and tuna meet international quality control standards for food safety with top-down inspections.

INSTINCT

All of Instinct’s cage-free poultry and pork, and free-range bison and beef come from the U.S. Their free-range lamb and venison are imported from Australia and New Zealand, and their rabbit protein is from Italy and France.  Whenever possible, the rest of Instinct’s food ingredients come from the U.S.  All U.S. sourced materials come from USDA inspected facilities that must be in compliance with their animal welfare requirements as well as their slaughter and processing requirements.  All materials sourced from other countries must conform to U.S. requirements. Their cage-free poultry is raised in large, long barns with open access. Their beef, lamb, and venison are raised outside on large pastures. 

KIWI KITCHENS

Environmental, financial, social, and ethical sustainability is at the heart of every Kiwi Kitchens product. All the meat, fish and produce in Kiwi Kitchens are 100% New Zealand sourced. Hormone growth promotants and GMOs are banned within the New Zealand chicken industry. Chicken are raised in a freely roaming barn. Red meats are free-range and grass-fed. Antibiotics are only administered if required for humane treatment. Salmon is from the freshwater glacial waters of New Zealand’s Southern Alps and wild-caught fish come from sustainable fisheries off their coast.

K9 Naturals’ ingredients are sourced in New Zealand, from the human food industry. They use free-range, grass fed and grass-finished proteins, free from antibiotics and hormones. All their products are GMO-free. 

KOHA

Koha Pet Food is made in the USA. All of the formulas include New Zealand green-lipped mussels and are free of grain, gluten, potato, and carrageenan gum. The domestic poultry, beef, duck, salmon, and pork are sourced from USDA inspected farms. The lamb and venison are free-range and grass-fed from New Zealand. The wild kangaroo is from Australia and the guineafowl is cage-free from France.

NATURAL & DELICIOUS BY FARMINA

N&D dog and cat foods are made from ingredients that are 100% GMO-free and suitable for human consumption. The fish, chicken, lamb, wild boar, and eggs used in the products come from select certified farms and are all hormone and antibiotic-free.

NATURAL PET PANTRY

Natural Pet Pantry products are made with farm-fresh ingredients that are delivered weekly to their own production kitchen in Seattle, WA. All meats and organs are USDA inspected, human grade and whole, and all vegetables are USDA Certified Organic. The farms they buy from do not use antibiotics or growth hormones. Beef, buffalo, and venison are grass-fed and pasture-raised and poultry is free-range.

NORTHWEST NATURALS

Northwest Naturals is a family-owned and operated business based in Portland, Oregon. All of their natural products are made in Oregon at their USDA/FDA Certified facilities and are also EU (European Union) approved. The ingredients they use are UDSA inspected and are human-grade. In addition to making pet food, they have been making food for humans since 1956. Their facilities are verified by the BRC third-party audits with the highest standards. All of their meat is raised without antibiotics or added hormones. Their beef is grass-fed, fish are wild-caught and chickens are cage-free. All of Northwest Naturals’ meats are from the USA, except for lamb and rabbit.

Nulo’s meat, poultry, and fish are sourced from North America, with the exception of some of their duck (France), lamb (Australia & New Zealand), and wild-caught fish (regions can vary based on the migratory path of the wild population). Nulo only sources meats and poultry from reputable suppliers who take great care to raise the animals humanely and fisheries that harvest fish responsibly. Their trout is farm-raised in freshwater raceways and ponds as trout raised this way is considered a “Best Choice” by the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch program, since many wild trout populations are now endangered. Nulo’s fruits, vegetables, organic and ancient grains, probiotics, vitamins, and minerals are sourced in North America, as well as from regions around the world. To help ensure safety, they require Certificates of Origin for all incoming ingredients and also require that all ingredients meet the strict quality specifications that each ingredient is held to.

OPEN FARM

Open Farm is the first ethically raised and sourced pet food. Their recipes are prepared with 100% Certified Humane™ meats, ocean-caught fish sourced in accordance with Seafood Watch™ standards, and non-GMO vegetables.
