About Us
Thank you for visiting Eco Pet Score!
My name is Sophie Levin, and I'm a grad student and an animal lover. (Growing up my family had dogs, cats, iguanas, and more!) Like so many animal lovers, I'm also an environmentalist, constantly trying to reduce my carbon footprint.
That’s why I was shocked to find out how much pet food contributes to global warming. According to a 2017 paper by UCLA Professor Gregory Orkin, America's cats and dogs are responsible for 25-30% of the environmental impact of meat consumption in the United States. If America’s 163 million cats and dogs comprised a separate country in 2017, their fluffy nation would rank fifth in global meat consumption!
Especially now, as so many friends and family have adopted new pets during Covid-19, I'm on a mission to better understand pet food and share that knowledge. If you would like to help, please contact me at info@ecopetscore.com.
Best,
Sophie
